One of Helen Keller’s most popular quotes would be, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” I’ve never met Helen Keller, so I would have never been able to actually ask her why she chose these words and what they meant to her. But, if I had to come up with something on my own, I would sum it up to the importance of working together. Green Bay Early Childhood Center opened its doors, in August 2015 to over 200 three to five year olds. Since the beginning we have continuously worked on building relationships, making phone calls, trying to get MOU’s signed, this important work becomes a part of the daily grind. But I would like to tell you about an organization, whose partnership happened so naturally.
The Women’s Leadership Council of United Way of Lake County is an organization made up of women from surrounding communities in Lake County whose mission is to have an impact on the lives of women through philanthropy. Upon meeting these women for the first time, no one had any expectations. Our first meeting was very casual and during this time, we let our hearts speak about the ways that we wanted to help the students and Green Bay Early Childhood Center. The moment couldn’t have been any better; a group of women sharing a vision in unison. Since becoming partners, the Women’s Leadership Council has contributed holiday bags, books and computers for our library, and continuous volunteering efforts in our classrooms. Their work not only benefits the children at Green Bay Early Childhood Center, the Women’s Leadership Council empowers women of all ages and backgrounds. No one is excluded from the wonderful ways in which these women can touch lives.
